www.NWFLA.com is the site to visit for comments from locals concerning shopping, graphic design, advertising, travel (day trips), fishing (from the beach, pier, or from a charter boat), area photography (pics we like), family vacation stuff (affordable), restaurants (food we like), seashells, sand between your toes, Emerald Coast lifestyle (what is it?), Sandestin (is that a city?), and the Gulf of Mexico (is it the ocean?). And YES... we do ramble on about stuff, get over it! Come on in the water's fine! Copyright 2004 Clark&Company

Let us tell you what we did and let you know what we thought about doing it...

I was fishing on the docks at Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin an hour or so before sunset. I had been there for 10-15 minutes before a tourist had even walked by. It felt like it was my private dock... lol. Then they started coming out in small groups. Some were couples having a cocktail or frozen drink while walking and talking to each other. Other were families trying to keep the kids together and not letting them climb on the rails. I hook a flounder and it's fighting to get off of my hook as I see it get to the surface. And with another swift shake he does it and is gone.

I didn't catch anymore fish this evening but I did make $5 catching a pacifier for a dad... I told him no I didn't want the money but I had been told it is not polite to refuse money when it is offered more than once. Well he stuck it in my back pocket and told me to go have a beer. I was just happy it made his son happy who was screaming his head off when it fell over the side into the water. So does that make me a "professional" since I got paid to fish???

You don't have to be staying on Sandestin property to enjoy everything they offer. When you turn off of highway 98 on the north side you will come to their front gate. Tell the man there that you want to go to Baytowne Wharf, he will give you a blue pass to put on your dash. Then take the first right, drive about a mile to a stop sign, take a left and drive maybe two miles and it will be on your left. You will see the tennis courts on the left prior to your turn and homes on the right side. Enjoy the shopping, dining, live music, art shows, wine festivals, and even movie nights during the fall. Plus the worst case is that you'll catch a sunset and those are most def keepers.

Get your hair did and your nails done lately? Ok Big Momma doesn't do your nails but she and her staff can cut hair. She is a master barber and has been in the area for years. I first meet her at Tim's place and then when she moved to South Walton, a few streets down from where I live, I followed her. Tell Pam you want her to "take a little off the top and get a little on the side" and she will know I sent you her way. SoWal Barbershop is in South Walton off of highway 98.

Everyone loves them because they are playful. They even look like they are smiling at you when you see them up close. Dolphins (well known for their sociable nature and high intelligence) cruise the harbor for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sometimes you see them and sometimes you can't find them even if you wanted to. And don't get them confused with Dolphin Fish also called Mahi Mahi that you might see on the menu at the seafood restaurant.

I like to fish but I'm not the go out on the boat guy... yup I get sea sick. Go ahead and laugh it's okay. If I am driving the boat I am fine, but get me concentrating on fishing with a little diesel fuel mixed in and woah. Well anyway feel free to take my boat out fishing anytime you want to. Figure out how many people want to go with you, then just head down to the harbor and book a charter boat. You can do a full 8 hour day or half day trips. Both types usually get you all the fish you want when they are biting. And get this, they even clean them for you when you get back to the docks. So you can have a ice cold drink while enjoying the ride back to the harbor and share stories about the one that got away.

I told you how I liked to go to the movies almost every week and I try to. But with the price of a ticket and popcorn not going down any time soon you need to find ways to still make it happen. Everyone has brought candy in to enjoy during the show even though the signs not say not to. Well I have been able to get a free ticket or two to the newest movies by being friends with Mix 103.1 on Facebook. You can too. Go to their page, "like" them, and then wait until around 5pm on Friday afternoons for the password. After you have the password go to the Rave at Destin Commons at 6 pm, find this guy Johnny, tell him the password and you got yours. Enjoy and I'll see you at the movies.
