www.NWFLA.com is the site to visit for comments from locals concerning shopping, graphic design, advertising, travel (day trips), fishing (from the beach, pier, or from a charter boat), area photography (pics we like), family vacation stuff (affordable), restaurants (food we like), seashells, sand between your toes, Emerald Coast lifestyle (what is it?), Sandestin (is that a city?), and the Gulf of Mexico (is it the ocean?). And YES... we do ramble on about stuff, get over it! Come on in the water's fine! Copyright 2004 Clark&Company

When you are in our local area you should try some of these things... we did.

So what do you do when you're broke, there's nothing on TV and you've already glued all your jigsaw puzzles together? We've got great suggestions for shoestring activities, or as some like to call them, cheap date nights. Things from family activities to first date outings that don't dip into your 401K. (Bonus points for you if your date thinks you're oozing with romantic charm. Maintaining the image is up to you, slick.)

"I love long walks on the beach"... sounds icky sweet right? Well don't knock until you have tried it. The beaches in Northwest Florida are the nicest worldwide. You drive yourself and your newest friend or "love of your life" to any of the many public access beach spots. Go park next to the Crab Trap restaurant in Walton county, grab a to-go cocktail, kick off your shoes, feel the sand in between your toes, and if your lucky, catch a sunset holding hands with... you know. After the sun sets try to sneek a kiss... ha ha made you smile. You know you did : )

Something smells fishy. Open your eyes, you're on the Destin harbor. This is a great place to walk around and see the "catch of the day". Head there around 4:30 or 5pm because this is when the charter boats return from their trips. Tourists like you will be returning sunburned but still smiling with a beer in hand. Once the captain parks the boat, the deck hands will clean the fish right there on the docks in front of you. Take some pictures, see some fish guts, and wonder how bad it would hurt if that fish was you. I know... I was just thinking it so I wrote it down.

If you enjoy live music and people watching you will love Funky's at Baytowne Wharf. They have live music more than anyone else in the area... or at least the most variety of good music. They sometimes charge a cover to help cover the costs of the bands (I have snuck in the back door before but don't tell anyone). One of the bands I enjoyed there was the Honey Island Swamp Band and if you .com them you can find out more info on them and where they will be playing next. Oh yeah and the people watching at Funky's can be crazy. You get all types there... drunk golf types (male and female), special party night people (girls with crowns, sashes, and wierd straws), couples (both those who are there with the people they are supposed to be with and those who just meet and temporally forgot something) and other people watching people like me. Go there and ask if Matt is working... if he is he will make you a good one.

A Farmer's Market at Seaside?? Yuuuuuup I know is doesn't sound like something they would do out there in their world of pastel dream homes. But they do and it's kinda nice too. It's not too large, a few vendors with all kinds of stuff you might just want to take home with you. The veggies above were there the last time I was there. It takes place on Saturday mornings at 8 or 9am until about noon I think. Check it out before a nice walk on the beach with a cup of coffee.
